Kenyatta National Hospital rocked by Second Ward 7B Murder
A chilling incident at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has sent shockwaves through the country after a 54-year-old male patient was found dead in Ward 7B on 17th July 2025, at approximately 2:00 PM.
The victim was discovered soaked in blood with a fatal wound to his throat, suggesting a brutal murder under unclear circumstances.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), in collaboration with hospital management and other investigative agencies, has launched a probe to identify the perpetrator and motive behind this heinous crime.
Disturbingly, this incident bears an eerie and tragic resemblance to a similar, unresolved case that occurred just five months prior in the very same Ward 7B.
In February 2025, 39-year-old Gilbert Kinyua was found dead, also with his throat slit and blood spattered on the floor, directly opposite the current victim's bed.
The striking parallels between the two murders in the same ward have raised serious concerns about a possible pattern and the adequacy of security measures within the national hospital.
Several investigative units, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the DCI Homicide Division, and forensic experts from the Government Chemist Department, swiftly arrived at the scene.
Their objective is to meticulously gather concrete evidence that could shed light on the motive and ultimately identify the perpetrators.
In response to the escalating concern, visitors to other patients in the ward were immediately restricted. Only one visitor was allowed per patient for a limited duration, highlighting the heightened security alert within the facility.
Kenyatta National Hospital has confirmed the killing and reiterated its commitment to collaborating fully with the DCI and other investigative bodies to support a comprehensive investigation.
However, the murder has inevitably prompted intense scrutiny of the hospital’s security measures and, more critically, its capacity to learn from past failures given the near-identical nature of the two unresolved homicides in the same ward.
The public awaits answers on how such a grim pattern could emerge within a high-security medical institution.
