Explainer: Unpacking Kwambox’s ‘Fluid’ Sexual Orientation

Former Kiss 100 FM presenter and media personality, Sheila Kwamboka, widely known as Kwambox, has once again clarified her sexual orientation, emphasizing that her identity as "fluid" has never been a secret.

Speaking on the Iko Nini podcast with Mwafreeka, Kwambox, who has been a prominent figure in Kenyan media for over a decade, spoke openly about the topic, noting that newer generations of fans might not be aware of her past declarations.Fluid sexuality describes a dynamic and evolving sexual orientation, where an individual's attractions can change over time.

Unlike more fixed identities such as strictly heterosexual or homosexual, a person with fluid sexuality may find themselves attracted to different genders at various points in their life, or experience shifts in the intensity and type of their attraction.

For example, someone might identify as predominantly heterosexual for years, then find themselves developing strong romantic or sexual feelings for someone of the same gender.

Conversely, an individual who has primarily identified as gay or lesbian might later experience attraction to a different gender. For Kwambox, as she stated, this isn't a new or hidden aspect of her identity, having openly discussed it since her time on Big Brother in 2010.

This indicates that for some individuals, attraction isn't about exclusively liking one gender for their entire life. Instead, their attractions might evolve, shift in intensity, or be directed towards different genders at various points in their lives.

“Maybe Gen Zs are the ones who probably don't know me. I say this, I'm in my third phase of fans. When I was in K24, that was 2007. I was in Big Brother 2010, I started homeBoyz 2016,” she said.

She suggests that her "OGs" – original fans who have followed her career since its early stages – would already know the answer to questions surrounding her sexuality due to the extensive publicity it received.

“So, there are people who started following me for Kapow. There are people who started following me when I was at Big Brother. So, the OGs know the answer to this question,” she clarified.

Despite her long-standing transparency, Kwambox feels that "of late, people try to use it against me", but she dismisses it saying, it concerns her less.

“I was very clear that I'm fluid. It's never been a secret. I think there's many times I talked about this. But I feel like of late, people try to use it against me, and if I'm being honest, that's none of my business. I was very clear that I am who I am."
